CompTIA crosses the 1 Million Mark for people A+ Certified

CompTIA announced a huge milestone last month stating their Flagship certification, the A+ has surpassed the 1 million mark of people who have earned this credential. The A+ was first introduced in 1998 and is the base for some of the industry's leading certifications, such as the Network+ and Security+.

Who is the A+ for?

If you are fresh out of high school or looking for a career change in to the IT Field this is the certification for you. In order to receive CompTIA A+ certification a candidate must pass two exams. Prior to enrolling in an accelerated CompTIA A+ Boot Camp, students should have a general understanding of Windows client operating systems such as XP, Vista or Windows 7 and experience with Microsoft products and technologies.

What will I be tested on?

The first exam is CompTIA A+ Essentials which measures necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with the equivalent knowledge of at least 500 hours of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Successful candidates will have the knowledge required to understand the fundamentals of computer technology, networking, and security, and will have the skills required to identify hardware, peripheral, networking, and security components. Successful candidates will understand the basic functionality of the operating system and basic troubleshooting methodology, practice proper safety procedures, and will effectively interact with customers and peers.

The second exam is CompTIA A+ Practical Application which measures necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional with a working knowledge of practical use of current software and Operating System interface and features.

In Summary

In terms of Department of Defense .8570, now 8140 requirements the CompTIA A+ fulfills Information Assurance Technical Level 1.
